Drones and driver-less tractors the centerpiece at a sugar cane technology conference in Mackay. The Australian Society of Sugar Cane Technologists hosting Sugar Tuesday at the showgrounds tomorrow. It comes ahead of the 40th annual conference at the MECC Wednesday. Sugar Tuesday aiming to provide a hands on look at new and developing technology in the industry.

 Thiess launches a four year apprenticeship program targeting Mackay youth. An auto-electrician, diesel fitter and high voltage electrician apprenticeship program for work in Central Queensland. Successful applicants will receive financial support covering tech college fees and will have a determined placement upon selection. You must have completed year 12 as of this August with passes in English and Math with a current drivers license. Applications close April 27 via the Thiess website.

Operation target tilapia a huge hit for locals at Mackay Gooseponds. Despite having only four of the pest fish  caught Coastal and Waterways Officer Cass Hayward says the event was a great success. Local boy Jack Bennet claiming the title for first and most fish caught after landing two.

The 2018 Mackay Festival of Arts program has been announced, and this year it's being extended to include events at Pinnacle Playhouse. The festival will bring food, wine, entertainment and interactive workshops to Mackay from the 20th to the 29th of July. Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson says the artists of Mackay should be proud of their achievements.
