Sugar cane could be the answer to help Mackay’s graziers get through the drought. North Queensland based politician Nick Dametto wants to explore using raw cane and molasses-based liquid supplements to feed livestock. It's with reports that fodders prices have increased by 31 per cent in the region in the past 12 months. Mr. Dametto says the fodder is only enough to keep the animals alive

 

The Port of Mackay will be able to expand its services. It's thanks to $9.8 million in funding from the State Government for upgrades and its first ever roll on, roll off trucks. The trucks are expected to have flow on effects for businesses in the region.

 

Dingo Beach boat ramp will be receiving some much needed TLC. The State Government announcing a $1.4 million upgrade to improve boating infrastructure in the region. The next step is for Council to prepare a concept design for a widened ramp and discuss plans with approval agencies.

A wreath laying ceremony will get underway today at Jubilee Park. Residents are invited to the World War II Memorial from 10:30 for the annual Victory in the Pacific Day Ceremony. It marks the 73rd anniversary of the end of World War II and will be followed by a lunch at Harrup Park Country Club for veterans and their families. 

Mackay has fitness on the brain and numbers at the newest gym just goes to show. Since opening in June World Gym has had more than two thousand people take out memberships. The business now employs thirty staff and runs over a hundred fitness classes a week in Mount Pleasant. Last month alone the World Gym Mackay Cafe sold fifteen hundred protein shakes.
