MACKAY shivers into their slippers as the doonas are thrown wide for the working day. As temperatures around the region dip as low as three degrees this morning it appears Winter isn't finished toying with us yet. Temperatures should return to double digits tomorrow before taking another dive next week

 

The numbers are in and MACKAY drivers aren't getting the message to put down the bottle. 21 drunk drivers were caught on our roads over the weekend with three major readings. A 39 year old MANDALAY man was caught with a reading of 0.22 a reading more than four times the legal limit. While five drug drivers were also caught over the same period

 

Lamberts beach will soon be brought back to pre-cyclone Debbie condition. More than fifty thousand cubic metres of sand will be put back across the full length of the six hundred and eighty metre beach. Post and rail fencing will also be reinstalled at the northern end of the esplanade before being revegetated to stabilise the dune. The work is expected to start in mid-October and is predicted to take three months at a cost of nearly two point seven million dollars

 

Foodspace is joining in with parma for a farmer. Donating a dollar per parmie sold for the rest of the month. Money raised will go to the Buy a Bale Foundation

 

With a little over two weeks to go the CANCER COUNCIL is calling on MACKAY locals to throw their support behind Daffodil Day. The organisation's most iconic fundraising event gets underway on Friday 24th August. Cancer Council Queensland CEO CHRIS MCMILLAN says there's always room for more supporters. 

A PROSPERINE cowboy has swept away the competition in MOUNT ISA. 29 year old ROY DUNN scored a 166 at the Mount Isa Rodeo Bull Riding Competition. Edging out second place Sam Woodall by 8 point five.

A nail biting game for MAGPIES CRUSADERS as they faced REDLANDS on the road. There was no clear better side early on with plenty of opportunity for the ball early. Half time saw the Redlands up but MAGPIES kept them guessing throughout the second half. Losing 3-2 in the 82nd minute
