Stage one of the Whitsunday's Sports Park revamp begins. The six point five million dollar project expected to be finished by next Winter. Bees are now recognised by local Mackay laws for the first time 18 months after urban bee keepers became angered over a rumor of banning the insect. Mackay Regional Council ruling beekeepers don't need permission to keep 10 or less hives in a space of two thousand square metres or more. While you can keep five hives on lots between one thousand and two thousand squares and two hives between four hundred and a thousand.

Good news for a key industry in the Whitsundays area, Tourism Whitsundays has improved its membership going forward. Businesses with membership will now also be members of the Queensland Tourism Industry Council. Tourism Whitsundays General manager Natassia Wheeler says they want to improve their membership benefits year on year.

 Mackay residents can get a taste of little Italy in their own backyards. The Italian Street Party getting underway this weekend from 3pm on Victoria and Wood Streets. There'll be lots of pizza and pasta on offer as well as a seven piece band to keep diners entertained. The festival also including an olive pip spitting and a pasta eating competition
