There was a big messy fruit smoothie at the Bruce Highway and Marian-Hampden road intersection A SEMI-TRAILER load of fruit and vegetables had to be cleared yesterday afternoon after a truck rolled. Luckily the drivers uninjured. Initial investigations reveal it may have been caused by an issue with the automatic vehicle changing down to neutral or excessive speed.

Our local cane growers are growing frustrated with Willmar stalling negotiations. The LNP is calling on Wilmar to allow a three way meeting between growers, Queensland Sugar and themselves. It's only a couple of weeks until the start of the cane harvest in Mackay and the Whitsundays. Wilmar executive general manager of North Queensland John Pratt's written to growers saying he hopes the issued are resolved quickly.

While it looks unlikely we'll see roads used to transport cane fixed before the crushing season gets underway. The Mackay Council says it'll be difficult to get funding approvals in time with assessment of roads finishing in more than two weeks.

The mass restriction placed on the Peak Downs Highway at Eton Range has been removed. While single lane closures and width restrictions associated with the damage from Cyclone Debbie remain in place.

More and more people are reporting instances of Domestic and family Violence in Mackay. Mackay police Prosecutor Jakkie Toustie says it’s due to people talking about the issue. She says Rosie Batty will be here talking about it at two events this month.

LOCAL SPORT

Mackay local AFL players Adam Fedor and Lauren Bella will soon be representing our state. They're in the Under 16 Queensland Academy and Under 18 Women’s Queensland Squads respectively. The pair will play in a series of games from the 19th in front of club recruiters.

The Mackay Toyota Nebo Rodeo is now in its 62nd year and is on this weekend. For the first time we'll see a full juniors program added to the mix.
