Glencore is keeping tight lipped about the Hail Creek workforce. In briefings with the workforce and the UNION very little detail has been given over which jobs would be cut and what process will be followed after they announced 430 jobs were being axed. The CFMEU has come forward saying they will continue to look for answers and provide support to affected workers.

An Outreach program catering to the specific needs of regional sex workers has arrived in Mackay. Respect Inc is funded by the State Government and works to provide outreach, supplies and support to the sex work industry. Peer Educator Michelle Mann said she believes there are about 20 permanent sex workers in the region with around 40 transient workers visiting regularly.

 

Mackay's Womens Services have been given a boost. The annual Women in League Round raising a mammoth $2500 for the local service. The funds are to be used for a supervised children's area with equipment kids can use while their mothers seek support.

Holy Spirit students are showcasing their art for the annual Variatry Visual Arts Exhibition. On show at the father Bucas  Centre until Friday.
