430 workers are set to be sent off the job at Hail Creek Mine. Glencore announcing yesterday they will be restructuring their operations. The key change outlined in their statement showed a reconfiguration of the mine from a two dragline operation to a truck and shovel operation. It will be phased in over the next eighteen months with most changes expected to be in place by the middle of next year. 

Sarina has expanded the Field of Dreams Parkland. The walk has now grown to include more than 400 plaques commemorating Mackay's forbearers and long standing families. With the growth of family plaques since 2006 and the project being opened again in 219 new  signage was made as part of a relaunch.

Cancer diagnoses rates are higher in Eimeo compared to the national average. The stats coming from the recently released Australian Cancer Atlas. The interactive tool showing that diagnoses for all Cancers are 12 per cent above the Australian average. Cancer Council Queensland Researcher Professor Joanne Aitken says the Atlas highlights where we need to see improvement.

Adeveturethon has brought the crowds to Mackay. The two day event got underway over the weekend with contestants from across Queensland on their bikes taking to the dirt track. Among the crowds was local national champion Peter Lister who said the event was a great opportunity for him before heading to Ipswitch to defend his title in the State Championships.

He caught the attention of clubs in BRISBANE but has said he never considered leaving Mackay and is looking forward to lining up for the club again in the 2019 season.
