What’s happening this Australia Day for the Limestone Coast?

Australia Day celebrations will be in full swing across the region this week, with plenty of community events happening.

 

Breakfasts are planned in Naracoorte, Beachport, Penola, Kalangadoo, Mt Gambier, Robe, Portland and many more local towns and community members are encouraged to join the celebrations

 

Here are just some of the many incredible events you can be a part of across the limestone coast:

 

Mount Gambier: 2018 AUSTRALIA DAY BREAKFAST AND AWARDS CEREMONY - The City of Mount Gambier invites everyone to the to celebrate what’s great about being Australian at the Australia Day Breakfast and Awards Ceremony; at Mount Gambier Railway Lands, Railway Terrace.

 

Come down for a cooked Breakfast prepared by Lakes Rotary Club with all proceeds donated to Regional Foodbank & Sunset Kitchen. Live entertainment from 7.30 am and Official Awards Ceremony & Flag Raising from 9.15 am.

 

It’s just $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children; with all proceeds going to Regional Foodbank and Sunset Kitchen. Entertainment starts from 7.30am and everyone is encouraged to wear something “Australian” as there will be a “Best Dressed” prize given. Official proceedings will begin at 9.15am with the flag raising and awards ceremony.

 

Beachport: The Beachport Australia Day Breakfast and Presentations

Lagoon Reserve Beachport, 8am – 10:30am (Breakfast supplied by the Beachport and Rivoli Bay Lions Club)

The event includes an Australia Day address and award presentation for Australia Day Citizen of the Year.

 

Casterton: Australia Day Breakfast 8.00am Island Park, Murray Street, Casterton.  Free BBQ breakfast & entertainment. 9.00am – Flag raising ceremony – featuring guest speaker, Australia Day Ambassador - Australia Day Awards Island Park, Murray Street, Casterton

 

Heywood: Australia Day Lunch - Flag Raising Ceremony, 11.30am – Flag raising ceremony – featuring guest speaker, Australia Day Ambassador - Australia Day Awards including Heywood Citizen Award 12.30pm – Free BBQ lunch (Bring a chair or rug) – on the Banks of the Fitzroy River

 

Kalangadoo: The Kalangadoo Australia Day Breakfast and Presentations

Kalangadoo Institute, 8am – 10:30am (Breakfast supplied by the Lions Club), including an Australia Day address and award presentation for Australia Day Citizen of the Year.

 

Kingston SE: Australia Day Celebration 8:00am to 11:00am. Breakfast from 8am. Presentation Ceremony 10am. Including: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Local Tidy Towns Awards Presentation .

Kingston SE Lions Park, Hanson Street, Kingston

 

Lucindale: There will be a community lunch from 11.00am till 1 pm at the rotunda Centenary Park, Musgrave Avenue. 

 

Naracoorte: The Australia Day celebrations are an opportunity for the community to come together, acknowledge the contribution people have made to the community and welcome new citizens to the community.

The Naracoorte Australia Day celebrations kick off at 7.00am at the Naracoorte Town Square with breakfast supplied by local service clubs, entertainment starts from 7.35am and the official ceremony commencing at 7.55am.

 

Nelson: Australia Day Breakfast 8.00am - Complimentary Breakfast at Bridge Park - A raffle will also be held during the proceedings - Entertainment by the "Nelson Bush Trio". 10.00am - Drawing of the raffle 10.30am - Bowling "Tournament" at the Tennis Court - all welcome to participate - Leake Street

 

MERINO: 11am at Merino Swimming Pool, Free BBQ & live music, Presentation of Merino-Digby Lions Citizen of the Year Award

 

Millicent: The Millicent Australia Day Breakfast and Presentations

Millicent Jubilee Park, 8am – 10:30am (Breakfast supplied by the Lions Club)

It includes an Australia Day address and award presentations for Australia Day Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of Year.

 

Penola: The Penola Australia Day Breakfast and Presentations

Penola War Memorial Park, 8am – 10:30am (Breakfast supplied by the Lions Club)

It includes an Australia Day address and award presentations for Australia Day Citizen of the Year & Young Citizen of the Year.

 

Portland: Australia Day Breakfast 8.00am, Memorial Triangle, Cliff Street, Portland.  Free BBQ breakfast & entertainment. 9.00am – Flag raising ceremony – featuring guest speaker, Australia Day Ambassador - Australia Day Awards - Australian Citizenship Ceremony

 

Grant Council Australia Day Celebrations: Council invite a different community group to host its Australia Day celebration BBQ lunch and Australia Day Awards announcement and presentation ceremony each year

Council's 2018 event will be held at the TARPEENA FOOTBALL OVAL from 11.30am on Friday 26th January.

 

 * BBQ lunch by gold coin contribution from 11.30am

 * Free entertainment by Mount Gambier City Band

 * Free children's activities

 * Free Australia Day give-aways

 

Official Ceremony including announcement of Australia Day citizenship Awards from 1.15pm

The Tarpeena Community Market and other children's activities will be held next door from 10am.

 

Robe: Australia Day Celebrations 2018 8:00am to 11:00am Celebrations will kick off with a cooked breakfast by the Robe Lions Club commencing at 8am with the official Australia Day Awards Ceremony commencing at 9am.
