Kenneth Pillar, the Victorian truck driver responsible for the accident that claimed life of Mount Gambier Teacher Maria Dowdell in 2015, has been sentenced to 5 years in prison.

The 55 year old was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving in December 2015, after his semi-trailer veered onto the wrong side of the Swan port Bridge causing the head on Collision caused by what he claims as a coughing fit and blacking out prior to the accident.

Judge Sophie David sentenced him to 5 years behind bars and has disqualified him from driving for 15 years
