The Limestone Coast Regional Hub is set to provide medical students with the ability to study, work and live in Mount Gambier.
The Mount Gambier Hub will work in collaboration with healthcare providers, specialist colleges, and local health authorities to develop training pathways for future doctors and health workers.
Progress has been made in establishing the Hub, with Flinders University developing postgraduate clinical supervision models to support specialist training.
Member for Barker Tony Pasin says the hub wouldn't be possible without the university, "And the regional training hub receives an initial funding grant of a million dollars to provide this training possibility out of Mount Gambier and a satellite in the Riverland."
"So it's a great partnership and an example of the university sector government and private industry namely the medical profession working in concert to solve a problem which is the lack of Doctors and allied health professionals in regional areas."
