Development in Mount Gambier is on the up, funding announced for a major upgrade to Mount Gambier Airport.

 

3.5 million dollars will be handed down, under Round 2 of the Building Better Regions Fund - Infrastructure Projects Stream.

 

Works including the extension to the main runway, construction of a heavy aircraft apron and a covered up passenger drop off zone.

The project is expected to create up to 7 jobs during construction, and more than 90 ongoing jobs once completed.

 

Officials hopes the 9 million dollar project will deliver significant economic and social benefits to the community, including increased tourism visitor numbers, more competitive airfares and better scheduling of air services.

 

Barker MP Tony Pasin has welcomed the news - saying it's fantastic for Mount Gambier and the entire Limestone Coast region of South Australia.
