Underwater Pyramid To Draw Tourists To The Gold Coast

There could soon be a massive pyramid on the Gold Coast to rival those in Egypt, but you will have to put on a wet-suit to see it!

Gold Coast City Council recently lost a bid to sink ex-navy vessel HMAS Darwin off the coast to use as a dive wreck, but that hasn't sunk Mayor Tom Tate's hopes of creating a dive attraction here.

Mayor Tate is refloating plans he had a couple of years ago, to build a huge pyramid and scuttle it off The Spit, to create an Ancient Egyptian-style artificial reef.

He said the pyramid shape would allow beginner and experienced divers to check it out.

"Imagine the pyramid being a skeleton-type structure; we want coral and marine life to grown and come there," he said.

The state is reportedly backing the $5,000,000 dollar plan, with the government and council to split the costs.
