PARTY POOPER: Surfers Clubs Close After Dangerous Power Outage

Saturday night frivolity was cut short in Surfers Paradise over the weekend thanks to a power outage in the party precinct.

Underground cables on Cavill Avenue exploded at around 10pm cutting power to nearly 2000 customers, including Melbas, Cocoon and the Helm Bar, which were all forced to shut their doors and refund patrons.

The force of the blast also pushed up four manhole covers in the area, but luckily no pedestrians were injured.

The lights were back on around two hours later, but it was too late for affected businesses to recoup their losses.
