It's slightly easier for renters to find a place to live, now that the Commonwealth Games have wrapped up.

The Real Estate Institute of Australia's latest rental survey for the June quarter shows the market has eased slightly, with the number of vacant places increasing from 1.1 percent to 2 percent.

Despite the rise, Felicity Moore from REIQ says renters are still a long way off having a heap of affordable choices.

"We're starting to see a little bit of upward pressure on price from this consistent long-term tightness but it has eased a little bit, so hopefully that will start to make conditions a little bit better," she said.

Ms Moore said people leaving the Gold Coast after the Commonwealth Games have helped free up more houses and apartments, but new developments opening up was the major cause for the increase in available properties.
