Fire fighters are still searching for a missing dog, believed to have fallen down a cliff at Currumbin.

Five-year-old Mickey was reported missing a few days ago by her family, and neighbours called the RSPCA on Tuesday after hearing a dog barking, seemingly in distress.

Senior humane advocate officer Jo Jordaan arrived on the scene that evening but couldn't get to Mickey because of the rough terrain.

"The light was against us and we had to call off the rescue because of the terrain and working in darkness just wasn't safe for anyone," she said.

RSPCA officers and emergency services returned on Wednesday morning to try and rescue the Staffy.

"Thankfully she started calling out again so the firies have got a better idea of where to go," said Ms Jordaan.

It was not known if Mickey was hurt.

Ms Jordaan has thanked the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services for their help, saying it was a big rescue mission for a little dog.

"The assistance from fire and rescue is greatly appreciated because it's something far out of our depth," she said.
