The rain didn't dampen the spirits of 35,000 spectators at the Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony last night.
Carrara Stadium lit up with lights and fireworks, showcasing 2,500 performers.
Prince Charles officially opened the Games with help from World Champion hurdler and Gold Coast local, Sally Pearson, handing over the Queen's Baton.
What followed was a night of dancing and singing as the Gold Coast celebrated Australia's Indigenous culture, our iconic beaches and home grown talent like Delta Goodrem and Ricki-Lee.
The showcase wasn't limited to the stadium, with around 1.5 billion people across the globe tipped to have tuned in on TV.
Today the excitement continues as 11 days of competition gets underway.
