Palmerston Street in Warragul will be transformed as work commences tonight in the CBD.
The plan, which will convert the street into one-way traffic (from Victoria Street to Smith Street) will also include a wider footpath, four extra parking spaces, new street lights, more trees, and some feature lighting with LED strips. In addition, extra seating and flagpoles will be installed in the street along with some interpretive signs showcasing Warragul's historical photos.
The Baw Baw Shire website assures us that access to shops in Palmerston Street will remain the same during business hours, and work on footpath paving will be done in various stages. That said, due to the nature of the roadworks, some isolated parking spaces will need to be blocked off.
Roadwork will be carried out at the following times over the next few weeks:
Monday to Wednesday - 6pm to 6am
Saturday - 1pm to 6pm
Sunday - 7am to 6pm
The Warragul CBD streetscape project is worth over $4.5 million and also included the construction of roundabouts at Mason/Albert Streets and Mason/Palmerston Streets late last year.
