In an effort to improve tertiary numbers in Gippsland, Bairnsdale is set to build a new hub that will be dedicated to providing and assisting with university education for more remote communities.

The hub, which is expected to cost around $500,000, will cater towards industries that have shown continued growth such as nursing and agriculture. A similar centre for tertiary support has been in use in Cooma, NSW, which has been well received by students and the surrounding community.

It’s a really exciting opportunity for young people to be able to access tertiary education right here in their home towns” Cr Joe Rettino told media.

The hub is aiming to support courses that will not only help the student undertaking the course, but in doing so, help improve the wider community.
