Gippsland proved to be a very popular tourist destination for Aussies in 2017, according to the latest stats from Tourism Research Australia.
The national visitor survey revealed a 27.5% increase to the number of domestic visitors with 1.41 million staying a night in the region.
Tourism growth on Phillip Island wasn't quite as big though - the region only experienced a 12.5% increase to 936,000 in the 12 month period.
