The owner of Morwell Power Station, Energy Brix, has applied to construct an asbestos disposal area on site.
An application was made to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) to create an asbestos landfill at the condemned power station and briquette factory as part of the demolition plans.
This comes after the Victorian Heritage Council determined the site should be added to the Heritage register last week, sparking backlash over the decision.
Energy Brix says putting the thousands of cubic metres of asbestos into the ground would be the lowest risk option because the fibres won’t move into the soil if fully wrapped up.
