At the moment there are around 52% of Latrobe Valley women earning less than $400 a week, which is well under the minimum full-time wage.

The Federal Government has launched a new plan to encourage women to join the workforce. The Towards 2025 program aims to reduce the gender participation gap by a quarter.

Minister for Women and Employment, Michaelia Cash, told Hit FM this morning the strategy has the potential to add up to $25 billion to the Aussie economy through some new initiatives, including the Launch Into Work program and Parent Next program. "By ensuring that key support services such as childcare and job skills training are readily accessible at local community level, this means that local women will have more choices when it comes to employment and balancing their work-life commitments."
