National Diabetes Week Reveals Some Alarming Figures For Gippsland

It's National Diabetes Week and Gippslanders are being urged to curb their risk of developing the disease.

Newly-released data shows Bass Coast, South Gippsland and Latrobe City have the highest number of people with type 1 and 2 diabetes in the region, while Baw Baw Shire has a rate roughly equal with national figures.

Regional Manager for Vision Australia Megan McDonald told Hit FM this morning that diabetic retinopathy can cause blindness and low vision in people with the disease, and it's on the rise as more people are diagnosed each year.
