New Census data has revealed the town of Bunyip has around three times as many young single men compared to women.

The statistics, showing a large amount of single men aged between 24 and 29, is likely due to many of them choosing to stay and run family farming businesses, while many young women are leaving to pursue work in Melbourne.

The data also found similar results across the state with Inverloch, Colac and Merbein, but in the age bracket of men aged 30 to 44.
