AGL has reassured Latrobe Valley residents they have no plans to close Loy Yang A Power Station before the expected date of 2048, despite reports suggesting it may close 10 years earlier.

The comments were made by management to investors at a meeting this week, saying the plant would require significant investment in a decade’s time to ensure its operation through till 2048.

Loy Yang A General Manager Steve Rieniets said “Although we are progressively rehabilitating, we estimate we would need a further 15 years after coal operations cease to conduct final rehabilitation”.
