Burra Foods has announced plans for a $24.5 million expansion of their Korumburra plant in the coming years, with the aim to start manufacturing infant formula.
Partially funded by the state government, this investment will create 39 new jobs in the South Gippsland dairy industry.
CEO Grant Cruthers told Hit FM News this morning the Korumburra plant has always produced an ingredient product, but this is the first step for a consumer-ready item. "Australia has developed a very strong trade with China for infant formula over the last 3 or 4 years. We've been part of that trade due to our capacity to produce the product, but we've not done a consumer-ready product before."
The construction of a new warehouse will see Burra Foods creating infant formula by 2020.
