The trestle bridge in Kilcunda will close in the coming days so major deck and handrail improvements can take place.

The entire upper deck and connecting handrails will be removed, and replaced with stainless steel balustrading and mini-mesh decking.

Work on the iconic bridge over Bourne Creek is expected to take around 6 weeks to complete and will cost Bass Coast Council around $867,000.

It's the second part of works to revitalise the bridge after the substructure was repaired last year.
