The Victorian government has announced it will fund a 3 million dollar grant program in the Latrobe Valley to support the development of a microgrid project.

The grants will aim to lower the cost of energy for local businesses, encourage investment in the region, and support the transition to a low carbon economy.

A microgrid operates while connected to the grid, but can operate on its own with local power during outages. Microgrids can also share excess energy with the network for other users.

Applications close on 17th September. Successful applicants will need to complete their project by mid 2022.
