Plans to upgrade the Gippsland Plains Rail Trail have received a boost from the federal government. 

A sum of money, $267,000, will go towards the Rail Trail Committee installing a new bridge over Thomson River, upgrading the Eaglehawk Creek crossing, and sealing the trail between Princes Highway and Glengarry. 

Gippsland MP Darren Chester has vowed to work with local and future state governments to secure the rest of the funding needed for the 1 million dollar project, which will span from Traralgon to Stratford.
