A new forensic lab will be constructed in Morwell by the end of next year, following an announcement from the state government.
To be located on Saskia Way, the facility will provide 11 ongoing forensic jobs and make it easier for Gippsland police to test evidence locally without the need to send it to Melbourne.
MP for Eastern Victoria, Harriet Shing, told Hit FM News this morning the lab will go a long way towards cutting down the time spent waiting for evidence to be processed. "This will help police to analyse illicit substances, help investigators to crack down on drug trafficking and dealing".
11.6 million dollars will be split between the construction of forensic labs in Morwell and Ballarat.
Work is set to begin later this year and should be finished by the middle of 2019.
