Latrobe City Council will now be able to add geothermal technology to the Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre after receiving an 8 million dollar loan from the Victorian government.

Geothermal technology provides natural heating from the earth and warms swimming pools.

The loan is on top of the 46 million dollars in state funding already provided for the 85 million dollar precinct in Traralgon.

Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre will also include an eight-lane 50 metre indoor pool with 500 seats for spectators, along with competitive and leisure swimming areas.

Construction on the complex will begin early next year.
