Latrobe City Council will explore the possibility of limiting the use and supply of single-use plastic water bottles at council facilities and events.

It comes following the statistics that revealed Australians spend half a billion dollars on bottled water each year, with only 36% of the bottles being recycled.

The motion was passed at Monday night’s Council meeting after a push by Deputy Mayor Dan Clancey.

Mr Clancey told the council they should be taking the front foot on the issue, given the recent recycling crisis which saw council rates raise to cover increased costs.
