An asbestos landfill facility will be built at the Morwell Power Station, following the go-ahead from the Environment Protection Authority yesterday.
Owner of the site, Energy Brix, is planning to demolish the station and factory and store the asbestos in the ground so they can sell on the site. Coal Energy Australia will use the briquette factory.
Heritage Victoria is currently considering the plans to demolish the power station. EBAC recently completed a community consultation to help determine what the site means to the Latrobe Valley.
