The mass recall of strawberries sold from Woolworths stores around the country, with punnets containing sewing needles, has hit alarmingly close to home for Gippsland.

Two punnets were found in Victoria, one in Yarram, which has prompted Victoria Police to join in the investigation with Queensland Police.

The two brands, Berry Licious and Berry Obsession, both come from south-east Queensland. The Queensland Strawberry Growers Association believes a disgruntled ex-employee may be to blame for the sabotage act.

Customers are urged to throw out recently-purchased strawberries, or hand them back to the Woolworths store you purchased them from.
