A Dedicated Gippsland Railway Line Could Become A Possibility

State opposition pushing for it

The state opposition has announced they will spend 8 million dollars on a business case for a new dedicated Gippsland railway line for trains through Melbourne's suburbs if they win this year's state election.

It comes following statistics from Public Transport Victoria, showing only 76.6% of Traralgon services arrived on time in June.

If the project goes ahead, it would mean the creation of a regional rail link similar to how the Ballarat, Bendigo and Geelong lines operate.

Nationals candidate for Morwell Sheridan Bond says many of the delays have been occurring because V/Line services get stuck behind metro trains. Ms Bond told Hit FM News this morning that the creation of Sky Rail has made the project more difficult. "It's taken up land space that could have been used for a third line into Melbourne, but that's exactly why we need this business case; to find out what the best solution is, now that we have got the Sky Rail."

The Victorian state election will be held on Saturday 24th November.
