Henry Ross Lookout to be upgraded!

Planning for a $300,000 upgrade of the Henry Ross Lookout on Kuranda Range Road has
begun. Member for Barron River Craig Crawford said the upgrade was part of the Palaszczuk
Government’s $3.2 million Scenic Lookout Upgrade Program.

“The Henry Ross Lookout is a popular stop for many visitors and locals driving through the
Kuranda Range,” Mr Crawford said. “The view back over the canefields and out to the Great Barrier Reef is an iconic Far North
Queensland panorama.”

Mr Crawford said Transport and Main Roads would consult with key stakeholders before
finalising the design. “A concept plan for the upgrade will be developed and presented to key stakeholders as part of
the consultation process,” Mr Crawford said.
“The scope of work is yet to be finalised, but potential improvements include a new platform
and weather shelter, extended walkway, upgraded fencing and installation of new information
signs.

“Works will also include the removal of long grass on the embankment in front of the lookout
and the installation of weed matting and low maintenance ground cover plants.”
Work will be carried out by RoadTek and is expected to be completed by late June 2017,
weather permitting.
