AMAZING ARTWORK TO TRANSFORM CAIRNS

All for a great cause!

With a lineup of 20 public artists from Cairns, Australia and overseas, the walls, streets, alleyways, (and water towers) of Cairns and surrounds will be transformed in colourful, oceanic inspired murals between between Friday 27 April and Sunday 6 May 2018.

Among the high-profile group of artists-in-residence converging on Cairns in coming weeks are the prominent Low Bros duo from Berlin, Germany, Cinzah Merkens from New Zealand, Claire Foxton, Fuzeillear, Ian McCallum, David Houghton, Studio Dennis, Phibs and Georgia Hill from Australia.   Joining them is a number of well-known local artists including Wally (Daniel Wallwork), Regular Rick (Ricky Beresford), Glen Mackie, Caroline Mudge and Andrea Huelin.

PangeaSeed Foundation’s partnership with PADI has enabled Sea Walls Australia to provide a rare underwater, reef experience for six of the participating artists that will undertake dive certification between 25 and 27 April in advance of painting their public artworks.

“The opportunity for artists to see the reef in its natural state, to compare healthy corals with those that have been bleached as a result of rising sea temperatures, will no doubt drive and enhance the artistic process,” she said.

The Cairns edition of Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans murals will be created across the city’s CBD as well as Bentley Park College (in line with an artist residency for high school art students) and the water tower at Holloways Beach.

High profile mural locations include one of CQ University’scampus walls in Shields Street, Cairns Central (Target end of McLeod Street), three locations encompassing Cairns Showgrounds (Mulgrave Road, Severin and Scott Streets) and more to raise awareness of ocean health.
