Member for Kalgoorlie Kyran O’Donnell is calling for parents and students to oppose the upcoming Goldfields Camp School closure, at a rally scheduled for 4pm tomorrow, to reject the McGowan Government’s education cuts.
The Premier and Education Minister Sue Ellery confirmed a reversal of Labor’s education slashing — which included scrapping the Kalgoorlie School of the Air closure — and revealed the regional education reforms in December. But Mr McGowan and Ms Ellery did not reinstate the Goldfields Camp School as part of the back-flip.
Mr O’Donnell said the State Government was “out of touch” with regional education, and that camp schools allow SOTA to bring students together several times a year to connect and strengthen the bond and support among peers and teaching staff." Mr O'Donnell believes that without the facility, students and families are without a suitable venue that accommodates their needs, which can cause further isolation.
