State's First Poppy Crop In Central West

Minister for Primary Industries Niall Blair has welcomed the progress of the state’s first opiate poppy crop, which is now in bloom in a number of secret locations across the Central West.

Mr. Blair says the new industry could be worth up to $100 million over the next ten years. Having inspected one paddock, he says the rest of the crop is doing just as well, which spells a strong future for poppy crops in NSW.

He says when the NSW Government changed the law in 2016, it was because they saw the potential for producers and for patients in need of the medications it produces.
