On Friday in Dubbo, Police Minister Troy Grant and senior police will launch a new road safety campaign.
Operation WestForce is a high visibility policing operation aimed at driving down the rising road toll in the western region.
It comes as regional road safety is made the focus of Road Rules Awareness Week.
New and confronting figures reveal that in 2016, 384 lives were lost on NSW roads, and 253 of those were on country roads.
Other statistics show men account for 70 per cent of fatalities on regional roads, and 41 per cent of fatal crashes on regional roads involved local drivers.
Speed continues to be the leading cause for the regional road toll in NSW.
