New 40km/h Speed Limit Around Emergency Vehicles

The safety of our emergency workers will come to the forefront with the announcement that the State Government will introduce a new rule requiring all motorists slow to 40km/h when passing them on the roadside.

NSW Police Minister Troy Grant says the rule will provide extra protection for emergency service personnel who put their lives on the line.

It'll begin as a 12 month trial from September 1 this year following a comprehensive public education campaign.

It includes all roads with the 40km/h limit in force when the lights flash and the emergency vehicle is stopped on the kerbside.
