Man Charged After Allegedly Brandishing Knives

A man will face court after allegedly brandishing a knife at three locations in Dubbo yesterday.

About 9.30pm (Monday 5 February 2018), a 37-year-old man left a friend’s home in Pozieres Street allegedly carrying two knives. Concerned for his behaviour, the friend contacted police.

The man walked to a nearby service station on Erskine Street before allegedly threatening the console attendant with the knives and chasing him around the store.

The attendant ran outside, got into his personal vehicle and drove off before he contacted police.

The man left the service station and walked to a nearby hotel on Erskine Street and entered the bar. He allegedly told patrons he was being chased and asked for police to be called.

A short time later the man allegedly threatened the manager of the hotel with the knives and began to chase patrons around the bar before he left the hotel.

The man then ran up to a vehicle parked outside a pizza shop on Erskine Street. He allegedly entered the vehicle before threatening the female driver and demanding she drive him away.

Also inside the vehicle at the time were the woman’s two children, aged 4 and 13.

Fearing for their safety, the woman attempted to remove her children from the vehicle just before police arrived at the scene.

Two officers approached the car and called for the man to exit the vehicle. The man ran from the car into the pizza shop where after a physical struggle, he was arrested.

The man was taken to Dubbo police station and charged with seven (7) offences including:

- Armed with intent to commit indictable offence (x3);

- Assault with intent to take/drive motor vehicle (x2); and

- Take / detain person with intent to obtain advantage (x2)

He was refused bail to appear at Dubbo Local Court today (Tuesday 6 February 2018).
