Dozens Of Baton Bearers Set To Enjoy Their Moment

Dozens of Central West baton bearers are set to enjoy their moment in the spotlight today as the Queen’s Baton Relay passes through Wellington and Dubbo this afternoon in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games.

Residents are encouraged to turn out in numbers to cheer on our local relay runners and join in the community celebration which will take place in Dubbo at Victoria Park at 5:30pm.

One of a dozen lucky baton bearers, Joan Rineburger, a teacher with the Dubbo College Senior Campus says the opportunity is a chance to show her involvement with the community.

Wellington: The baton will travel through Cameron Park from 1:50pm to 2pm. Celebrations from 1-2pm at Cameron Park.

Dubbo: The baton will travel from Apex Oval to Victoria Park from 4:40pm to 5:30pm - departing Dubbo at 6pm. Celebrations from 5-7pm at Victoria Park.

Changed Traffic Conditions: Wellington

Ahead of the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, the Queen's Baton Relay will travel around NSW and make its way through Cameron Park in Wellington at around 1:45pm on Tuesday 30 January.

The baton will not travel on-road however there may be delays as when convoy arrives into town between 1:30pm and 1:45pm.

From Wellington the baton will continue to its next destination by convoy travelling to Dubbo via the Mitchell Highway.

The Queen's Baton Relay will make its way through Dubbo from 4:30pm on Tuesday 30 January.

Local roads will be progressively closed between 4:30pm and 5:30pm and reopened as the baton travels along its course on Kokodari Pl, Wingewarra St, Hopetoun St, Bultje St, Macquarie St, Talbragar St and Darling St.

Motorists are advised to expect delays on roads through the area during this time and follow local detours.

From Dubbo the baton will continue to its next destination by convoy travelling to Coonabarabran the following day Wed 31 Jan via the Newell Highway.

The Queen's Baton Relay will make its way through Coonabarabran around 9:30am on Wednesday 31 January.

The Newell Hwy/Oxley Hwy (John St) will close for periods of up to 15 minutes between 9:25am and 10:15am from George St to Gordon St.

Key roads including Edwards St between the Newell Hwy and Purlewaugh Rd, Neate St and Cassillis St will be progressively closed and reopened between 9:30am and 10:30am as the baton travels along its course.

From Coonabarabran the baton will continue to its next destination by convoy travelling to Gunnedah via the Oxley Highway.
