Highfields Sport and Recreation Park has reached a new milestone with work starting on Stage 2 of the multi-sports facility.

“The Highfields Sport and Recreation Park has been embraced by the wider sporting community since the first stage was opened in May 2016 and is being used for daily training and competitions and has the capacity for larger sporting events and carnivals,” Cr Ramia said.

“The next stage will provide additional sporting fields and amenities to cater for future growth and demand from sporting groups. This is an investment in the future of sport and recreation in the region.”

Cr Ramia said works would include construction of four new multi lined tennis/netball courts.

“This stage will also include two multi-purpose fields encompassing one cricket and two rectangular sports fields, and a separate training field area,” he said.

“The additional facilities will include a new clubhouse and embellishments for a district recreation park with play and picnic opportunities. These facilities will be a boost for spectators as well as people wanting to enjoy this recreational asset.”

Cr Ramia said other works would include construction of a new public toilet block, an internal roadway connecting Cronin Road and Cabarlah Park Road, and path construction around the park.

“Stage 2 will include approximately 325 on-site car park spaces and 300 overflow car park spaces to cater for the growing use of the sport and recreation park,” Cr Ramia said.

Construction of Stage 2 is expected to be completed in December 2018.

Council thanks the community for its patience and co-operation during works and will seek to minimise disruptions where possible.

The community is reminded that the works area is a construction site and people should not enter the area for safety reasons.

Working hours will generally be from 6.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, however there may need to be earlier starts and weekend work on some occasions.
