Traces of asbestos have been confirmed at the Collegians Football Field in Warwick.

The field has played host to hundreds of young children from across the region this year – the field has been contaminated for the past eight months.

Asbestos Removal Queensland yesterday confirmed the presence of asbestos in soil at the football field on Jackie Howe Drive.

The Club received notification of the confirmation on Thursday, indicating that the soil tested showed positive traces of asbestos.

The contamination comes after topsoil was put on the field back in December of last year.

Collegians Junior Rugby League Club was notified on Tuesday of possible contamination resulting from topsoil that was put on the field in December 2017, and undertook soil testing.

Immediate arrangements have been made to secure the field with temporary fencing and the appropriate signage.
