Work to upgrade the car park off Lindsay Street at Toowoomba’s heritage listed Queens Park will start from Monday (March 6).

Toowoomba Regional Council Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said the project would require the temporary closure of the area to motorists and pedestrians for eight weeks, weather permitting.

Cr Ramia said the car park upgrade was another component of the ongoing improvements outlined in Council’s $12 million Queens Park Master Plan implementation project.

“Council has undertaken extensive planning to conserve and promote the history of the park while also improving the park facilities to offer residents better access and more convenient parking,” Cr Ramia said.

“Council is proceeding with improvements at the drive-in car park off Lindsay Street.

“This work will involve re-kerbing and re-sealing the road, footpath renewal, marked car park bays and landscaping.

“A walk-through section in the car park median strip will improve access and safety for people using wheelchairs or prams.

“Footpath work will be undertaken on the western side of Lindsay Street. This section will be closed to pedestrians.

“Car parking is available further along on Lindsay Street or Godsall and Campbell streets and others around Queens Park.

“Off-street car parking is located at the Chalk Drive car park.”

Previous work has involved pathway replacement, the installation of new signs, park furniture and tree planting in the park area.

A new toilet block was built near the Margaret Street children’s playground with replacement facilities completed off Lindsay Street along with new picnic shelters.
