A 17-year-old girl was returning home from holiday with her parents when the fatal crash happened.

Police allege a semi-trailer collided with a ute travelling east on the Warrego Highway, the force of the collision pushed the utility into the path of on-coming traffic, where it collided with a sedan.

The  teenager, who was travelling as a passenger in the sedan, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two other people in the vehicle, a 48-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, were both transported in a critical condition to separate hospitals.

The driver and sole occupant of the dual cab, a 36-year-old man from Oakey, was transported to Toowoomba Base Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the semi-trailer, a 35-year-old man from Victoria, was not physically injured.

Investigations by the Toowoomba Forensic Crash Unit are continuing.
