Close to 100 schoolchildren from across the region will join the world's favourite flying car on stage these holidays.

For the first time, the heart-warming family musical adventure Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will be performed at the Empire Theatre for two shows on Saturday, July 8.

Joining the talented cast is the star of the show, Chitty – a custom-built, life-sized, remote-controlled vintage car.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Director Vicki Bravery said Chitty and her two specialist controllers were arriving in Toowoomba just before the show.

“This car is simply amazing and her controllers – along with some theatrical special effects - can make her do all those magical things that we all know and love from the classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang movie,” Ms Bravery said.

“We are so excited to present this fabulous show to Toowoomba audiences, and if you've ever seen one of our holiday productions, you'll know our standard of professionalism is very high.

“In Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, audiences will get to see an exciting car race set in England, a flight to the make-believe country of Vulgaria, dark villains, humourous dialogue and, of course, amazing singing, dancing and acting. What more could you want?”

The cast members, aged between 10 and 18, who auditioned for the musical earlier this year, have happily given up two weeks of their holidays for intense rehearsals before the show.

They are all members of the award-winning Toowoomba Choral Society Youth Choir.

Sean Johnston, 16, who plays the heroic inventor Caractacus Potts, said he couldn't wait to bring his character to life on the Empire Theatre stage.

“My parents and grandparents are coming to see the show and they have all watched and love this movie, so I feel quite honoured to be able to portray Caractacus,” he said.

“He is a nice character and a wonderful father.”

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will be performed at The Empire Theatre for two shows on July 8 at 2pm and 7pm.

Tickets are available now through the Empire Theatre Box Office 1300 655 299 or online www.empiretheatre.com.au.
