A decision to declare the Western Downs in drought was reversed in April, after the region received some rain however locals say it is crucial that the decision be overturned.

The situation is becoming dire, if state Agriculture Minister Mark Furner and the Western Downs Local Drought committee don’t convene soon, the region won’t be added to the ‘drought declared’ list until April 2019, meaning that the region will miss out on federal government funds - a cost that farmers can ill-afford.
