R U OK? Day is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone that any is the day to ask – “Are you ok?” and support those struggling with day to day life.

R U OK? Day is about inspiring people to start these conversations every day of the year.

A conversation could change a life.

Toowoomba Regional Council is asking the community to join them on September 13 starting the conversation with your loved ones, friends or co-workers by asking ‘R U OK’.

TRC Portfolio Leader for People and Organisational Development, Cr Megan O’Hara Sullivan says “Taking part can be as simple as learning R U OK’s four steps, Ask, Listen, Encourage Action and Check in” Cr O’Hara Sullivan said.

“Emotional stress and depression can strike anyone for many reasons, sometimes without warning.

“Suicide still remains the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44.

“Don’t ignore your ‘gut feelings’. If you sense something is wrong with someone around you, ask the question R U OK?

“Before asking and starting the conversation though ask yourself “are you in the right headspace or right person to ask the question? It’s ok to admit you’re not, but find someone else who can.

“Asking someone the question may make you feel uncomfortable, but could be the starting point and make all the difference to a person knowing there is someone to talk to, listen, and offer support” Cr O’Hara Sullivan said.
