Residents have just under a month to have their say over the Cultural Precinct Plan proposed for Highfields.

There are reports that some locals have been unhappy with the plan saying that the changes are a safety risk.

Toowoomba Regional Council has put the plan up for public consultation.

Mayor Paul Antonio says that this plan is looking to the future of the area:

“This plan in particular is looking towards 2027 and beyond.

Normally we look at 50 year time frames but in this case it is for 2027 and beyond, so its 10 years and we’ll certainly be looking at the years, the decades following that.

I think the most important thing to understand about it at this stage is to understand that it is a ‘draft’ and we are going out into the community to consult with them, and they will have to the power to change it, and they will have the power to talk to Councillors and our planning staff, to offer us some better ideas than that currently in the ‘draft’ plan.”
